Moving to a new blog

Thank you to all who have been encouraging me. I decided to condense into one blog. My new blog is titled, A Cat in My Lap. I'm combining the stories of art and the cabin and everything in between onto one space.

I was feeling a bit fragmented, and not always having news for two blogs, so I think this will actually be more interesting to most readers. I'll leave the old blogs up for a while. I'll probably move some of my favorite posts to the new one eventually.

If you have linked to my blog in the past, thank you for doing so. I've kept most of my links on the new blog as I feel I have gotten to know most of you through your blogs. If you like what I am doing at A Cat in My Lap, maybe you'll update your link to me!

So, come on over to A Cat in My Lap and show me some love!
Many warm thoughts, Dana

No words today

I'm kind of burned out on blogging for now. I might come back, who knows, but part of this silene comes no doubt from my wondering if I should combine my blogs. So when I do come back, I might have a surprise.

Or I might not.

You asked for it, I delivered

Several asked to see pics of me in my hat so many moons ago when I made it, well, here 'tis.

Thank you to Vicki who posted it on her blog and to Adam for taking it. Vicki was much more into costume than was I at the Mad Hatter's Ball. I'm not sure what she calls her character, but I lovingly think of her as Bat Woman.

I forgot my camera!

Friday night, the freaks were out in full regalia in Eureka as it was the annual Mad Hatter's Ball. uhm... I am the biggest dork of all because I forgot my camera, so as others post their pics, I'll make some links for you to go sight seeing around the globe if you care to see the Victorian Ghost Bride, the Pot Head, Joe the Plumber, The Secret Life of Flies, Bat Woman, and then there was little ole me in my red felt hat.
In case anyone doubts me, this is how my hat was birthed. Yes, I did make my hat people, and I know no one believed me at the Mad Hatter's Ball, but 'tis the truth I am speaking to you. I put hours and hours of hard labor into the birth of my red hat and not that I am a sore loser, uh-hum, but I thought I at least deserved an honorable mention, as I did get up on stage and shamelessly did shake my booty in front of God and everyone in order to get a few votes. I did get one. As it turned out it was from my adoring Steve and albeit I gave my one vote to him, so we sort of cancelled each other out in the end.

But I did carry out a few prized possessions in the end. I won the bid on a lovely hand-woven cotton afghan made by Eleanor Lux herself, and a beautiful and original pastel drawing by the adored Ms. Jodi Stephenson.

It was a fun night, I just have no pictures to show for it.

Watch Out, I'm Armed!

Yes, I am officially packing heat... in the form of an electric staple gun. I have been wanting one of these for so long. And it is silly, really, why I had not bought one before. See, I have a staple gun, and it works, but it only shoots flat staples. Now the main thing I use a staple gun for these days is putting up holiday decor including lights. How many times have I ruined a set of string lights by embedding a flat staple head right through the cord? But me, being all tight-wad with the 'I don't need no new staple gun talk', wouldn't give in. Then it got to be harder and harder for me to find replacement staples for my old gun, now taped together and getting a little rusty too. So, yesterday, I sprung for a new one.
And I really splurged, electric AND it shoots brads too! S-W-E-E-T! It even has a safety switch so I don't accidentally put my eye out.

Now don't be jealous, 'cause I share. Just call me up and I'll come over totin' my new toy!

Mei Ling's Quilt

This is my finished block for Mei-Ling's quilt. I designed it myself, taking my cues for the bird shapes from some rubber stamps I bought last spring. Her Grammie raises chickens and all kinds of farm animals so I think Mei Ling will like it.

I also thought of the song "He keeps His eyes on the Sparrow" while I was making it and knew God will be watching over little Mei Ling too.

Now don't inspect my stitching very closely as I am NOT an experienced applique artist. And it has been a few eye glasses ago that I last embroidered also. But it was made with love, and that's the best ingredient of all.
